JAMES Walter scored a hat-trick of touchdowns as Oxford Saints trounced basement club South Wales Warriors 42-0 at Abingdon’s Tilsley Park.

The convincing victory lifted Saints to second place in Central Division 1 of the Southern Conference and condemned their rivals to relegation.

Walters’s first score came after only two minutes, when he touched down from two yards after a strong run from Antonious Athanasiou. Sam Fielden kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.

The Welsh side’s woes worsened when quarterback Dean Jackson was forced to off with a knee injury after being sacked by defensive end Conor Whitehouse

Athanasiou then ran the ball in for a nine-yard touchdown to double the score, Fielden adding the extras.

With Walter at quarterback, further scores came from Ryan Kingshott and Walter himself.

Fielden, who missed a field goal, added two more kicks to make it 28-0 at half-time.

The second half was a quieter affair, with the Saints maintaining their big lead.

A key player for South Wales was defensive back Dan Dacey, making tackles across the field and often being the one to bring down Oxford’s runners.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Walter crossed into the endzone to complete his hat-trick.

Saints sealed the deal with veteran tight-end Richard Bloomer running into the endzone from 23 yards for the final touchdown. Fielden added his seventh extra point.
