OXFORD City proved too hot to handle as they won the Ridgeway Relay for a third successive year.

In the race from Ivinghoe Beacon, Buckinghamshire, and Marlborough, Wiltshire, they beat Vale of Aylesbury by 79 minutes across 86.5 miles.

Tegs Jones ran the first leg for City, who never relinquished their lead in the hot conditions.

White Horse Harriers were third, while Eynsham were the first ladies’ team.

l ABINGDON enjoyed a successful final round of the Sri Chinmoy series with the last four-mile race culminating in the grand prix results.

Paul Hughes topped the senior men’s standings, while Peter Akrill (V40), Mark Lewy (V50), Lucy Shelton (SW) and Liz Bedford (LV40) were also victorious.

l MARC Juffkins, of Abingdon, won Vet 50 silver and Pete Stepney Vet 55 bronze at the British Pentathlon Championships.

Clubmate and Vet 55 Steve Pomeroy won the British Throwers Decathlon in Derby.

Bicester and Oxford City’s David Kuester triumphed in the Vet 70 category.

l SAM White was Bicester AC’s star performer at the UK Youth Development League Midlands North East meeting at Nuneaton.

One of only three Bicester athletes competing in the under 15 boys’ events, White set two personal bests while achieving a double in the 100m and 200m.
