EDDIE Pepperell managed just half a round before a thunderstorm washed out play in the first round of golf's Open de Portugal in Morgado.

The 26-year-old, from Abingdon, was tied joint 65th on level par at the time of the suspension.

The Frilford Heath member, seeking to survive only his second halfway cut of the year, had a bogey six at the third hole, but recovered that shot with a birdie at the ninth before the thunderstorm broke.

England’s Matt Wallace led the way with a ten-under-par 63.

He was a shot clear of Germany’s Sebastian Heisele.
