CHEQUERS won the 125th Oxford City FA’s Premier Cup final with a thrilling shoot-out victory over Summertown in the final at Oxford City.

The teams finished 3-3 after extra time, with Chequers edging home 5-4 on penalties.

Summertown took the lead in the first minute through Charlie Warland.

After having two efforts disallowed and being denied by some good saves from Summertown keeper Cornell Twomey, Chequers found themselves 2-0 down after 80 minutes when Alex Thompson scored a breakaway goal.

Bradley Fines scored from close range to give Chequers hope before a stunning 30-yard strike from Leighton Moss made it 2-2 in the last minute.

In extra time, Otis Woodward put Chequers in front for the first time before Summertown’s Charlie Rundle scored a cracker from 25 yards to equalise.

A great save from Chequers keeper Francis Maplethorpe in the final minute of extra time ensured it went to penalties.

And it was Maplethorpe who saved Town’s third penalty in the shoot-out to help Chequers retain the Victorian silver antique cup.

In the Doug Hobbs Cup semi-final, Lusitanos Oxford won 4-2 with goals from Daniel Maximiano (2), Rafa Tabalo and Marcelo Guilherme.

CHEQUERS came from 2-0 down to beat AFC Jericho 4-3 after extra time in the final of the UTV League’s Devenney Cup.

Ben Curtis (2, 1 pen) and Sharman Davies scored for Jericho, but Chequers won it with two goals each from Sean Hurcombe and Lance Williams.

Greater Leys beat Oxford Leys 3-2 after extra time in the Ridgeway Cup final, thanks to strikes from Dave Preece, Kyle Moss and Jamie Andrews.

Liam O’Callaghan and Ben Armstrong replied.
