THERE was praise for Oxford United’s young keeper Lucy Thomas following their 2-0 defeat away to leaders Millwall Lionesses in the FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series.

Millwall took the lead towards the end of the first half, Charlie Devlin setting up Ella Rutherford to score.

Oxford’s best chance fell to Riva Casley, whose well-struck free-kick brought a fine save from Millwall keeper Sarah Quantrill.

Seven minutes from time, Devlin was brought down, leaving Bonnie Horwood to seal the home win from the penalty spot.

United defender Rosie Lane, said: “We were playing well until the first goal, but then our heads went down.

“Our goalkeeper Lucy Thomas bossed it from the back. She’s only 17, so that was a really confident performance for her.”
