OXFORD City’s Stewart Thorp helped Great Britain win silver at the Indoor World Masters Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Thorp finished fifth overall in the 8km XC event, and with the combined effort of Ian Snow and Ken Black came second in the team category.

The veteran 65 athlete also competed in the 1,500m, where he finished fourth, as well as coming fifth in the 800m and 3,000m.

BICESTER’S Samuel Rayson took the plaudits as the first Oxfordshire summer open track and field fixture took place at Radley.

The under 13 athlete set a personal best of 14.21secs – just 0.1 off the national grade 3 standard – when winning the 75m hurdles.

Rayson also won the long jump with an effort of 3.85m, before finishing seventh in the 100m, with clubmate Michael Cadle 12th.

In the under 17 men’s event, Ben West won the 1,500m.

Amber Parker also triumphed, winning the under 15 girls’ discus, before coming third in the shot and fifth in the javelin.

Molly Acton was fifth in the under 17 800m.

Meanwhile, Abingdon’s Cordy Parker beat her personal best by more than five minutes in finishing third senior lady at the Cheshire 10k.
