OXFORD Hawks missed a chance to seal third place in South League Premier Division 1 with a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to London Edwardians in their penultimate game.

In one of their most insipid displays of the year, Hawks were second best from the start.

Wayfarers took control with two quick goals midway through the first half.

Hawks gradually awoke from their slumber and forced themselves back into the game, but with their usually reliable penalty corner routine misfiring, they still trailed 2-0 at the break.

Although the hosts stepped up their game in the second half, it was not until four minutes from the end that Jack Biggs pulled a goal back.

So Edwardians leapfrogged Hawks into third place having completed their league programme.

This leaves Hawks needing to win their final game of the season next Saturday at home to champions Havant to retake third spot.

Oxford drew 0-0 at home to Wallingford in Regional Division 1.
