BANBURY United manager Mike Ford warned his side they will need to improve if they are to continue their play-off push.

The Puritans host play-off Chesham United in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division tonight, before making the return to journey to Buckinghamshire on Saturday.

Ford is set to make changes after being dissatisfied with the performance which secured a third successive victory with a 2-1 triumph over Cirencester Town on Saturday.

“Our main priority is just to play better than we did on Saturday,” said Ford.

“We got the three points, but if we want to do that again against Chesham we’ll have to be a lot better.”

George Nash remains unavailable after missing Saturday’s match with a dead leg.

Elsewhere, a youthful Oxford City face North Leigh at Thame United for a place in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.

Goalkeeper Craig Hill and full-back Matt Peake-Pijnen are both cup-tied, having already featured for Oxford City Nomads in the competition, with Jake Pritchard and Sam Kemp being drafted in from the youth team as replacements.

City’s top-scorer Mike Fondop misses out after picking up a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Whitehawk, joining Freddie Grant (foot) and Reece Fleet (ankle) on the sidelines.

City went down 6-1 to Oxford United in last year’s final and caretaker-manager Mark Jones is keen to ensure his side get the opportunity to go one better this time.

He said: “Last year we didn’t really cover ourselves in glory in the final, so we want to get there again and give a better account of ourselves this time.

“Obviously we are taking it seriously and it’s a competition we want to progress in, but it’s also a good opportunity for some of our younger players to test themselves against senior opposition.”

North Leigh are without the cup-tied Andy Gunn and Malachi Napa, having featured for Banbury United and Oxford United respectively in earlier rounds.

Full-back James Fawke is unavailable, but the Millers could welcome back captain Stuart Hole from a groin problem.

A run of five games without victory in Division 1 South & West have ended North Leigh’s promotion hopes, with manager John Brough now eyeing a cup final appearance at the Kassam Stadium as the sole remaining chance for success at the end of the campaign.

“It’s a game that we want to go and win,” he said.

“Obviously we’re playing higher league opposition and we’ve done well against those teams this season.

“It’s a chance to get to a final, so of course we’d like to get there.

“For the players, to go and play at the Kassam is something they would love.”
