PAUL Knight took a month’s break from his job with Oxford City Council and ended up catching the biggest fish of his life.

The road-sweeper, from Cowley, travelled to fish five lakes in Thailand where he captured his first 200-pounder.

The arapima witch took a large lump of chicken within 30 seconds of Knight casting at the Jurassic Mountain fishing park and resort.

After his catch of a life-time, a delighted Knight said: “I’ve caught a Thames pike before, but this fish is a bit special for me.”

Nearer home, Don Spearpoint claimed Littlemore AS’s SH Taylor Cup with a hard-earned net of fish from the Club Lake, where 19 competed.

The resident bream were surprisingly sparse.

Spearpoint had three early bream and a tench on the pole with red maggot over groundbait for 19lb 8oz 0drms.

Malcolm Smith claimed second spot with three bream for 17.14.0 and Dave Porter was third with 17.9.0.

Terry Lester won Kidlington AS’s Hillier Championship on the Thrupp section of the River Cherwell.

Lester won with 11.4.0 caught on maggot and bread flake using a pole and feeder.

Jason Bean was second with 8.10.0, one of his chub weighing in at 5.13.0. Ron Hillier(7.4.0) was third.

Worthy of note was a 2.7.8. barbel caught by Dave Britnell showing that the Environment Agency-stocked fish are of a decent size now.
