REECE Chamdal won the consolation singles event at the Swedish Youth Open in Orebro.

The 14-year-old Bicester player won only one of his three group matches and missed the final stages of the cadet boys’ singles.

But he reigned supreme in the consolation event, defeating Salem Alsuwailem of Saudi Arabia 3-1, Lode Hulshof of the Netherlands 3-1, Singapore’s Nicholas Chong 3-0 and another Dutch player, Gabrielius Camara, 3-0 to reach the final.

And there he beat Emil Friis Hansen of Denmark 10-12, 11-2, 12-10, 11-6 to take the gold medal.

DARREN Jones starred as British Rail closed in on the Oxford & District Division 1 title.

Jones claimed a maximum in Rail’s 7-3 victory over Rutherford, for whom Julie Lawrence won twice.

Forum A beat Vikings A 10-0 to stay in touch, but are still five points adrift.

In Division 2, Forum D remain top but only by a whisker after Forum E held them to a draw.

Marco Zhang’s maximum put the D side on the front foot, but Kiarash Shaddel struck back by beating Paul Casey in five then beat Damon So 14-12 in the decider.

Joseph Mckenna-Jones then defeated the same two players, and with Ryan Hambridge’s earlier success, the draw was assured.

Vikings C stay top of Division 3 despite being held to a draw by Holton B.

Bob Ford’s maximum put Holton in the driving seat. But two wins for Feng Gu allowed Vikings to get back into the match, finally clinching the doubles to share the points.

Second-placed Forum I failed to make the most of the leaders slip-up, as they were held by clubmates Forum H.
