OXFORD suffered a heart-breaking defeat when they lost their English Trophy quarter-final at Norwich on a penalty shoot-out.

The visitors dominated for long periods and went ahead when good work from Niall Delaney set up Dan Bleach to slot in at the far post.

The lead did not last long, though, when Callum Chapman was adjudged to have brought down a Norwich forward and the hosts scored a penalty flick

Oxford were denied a flick of their own late on when Aaron Leadbeater was brought down in the D.

With the scores level 1-1 at full time, the match went to penalties.

Oxford failed to convert their final attempt to lose out on a semi-final place 5-4.

The previous day, Oxford beat second-placed Eastcote 5-1 to stay in contention near the top of South League Regional 1.

Their goals came from Sean Cox (2), Niall Devaney, Tim Burn and Jonny Campbell.

Oxford Hawks went fourth in Premier Division 1 with a dramatic 3-2 victory at home to Spencer.

Goals from Ted Bennett and Alex Williams, from a penalty corner, put Hawks 2-0 up at half-time.

Spencer piled on the pressure in the second half and levelled with 15 minutes left.

In the last minute, Toby Blong won Hawks only penalty corner of the second half and Jack Biggs stepped up to drill home the winner.

Witney took another step closer to promotion with a 5-1 win at home to OMT 2nd in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.

Ben Wells and Rory Heaslip put Witney 2-0 up at half-time, but the visitors pulled a goal back in the second half.

This spurred on Witney who added further scores from Wells and Heaslip and Ryan Fitz-John on his birthday.

l OXFORD Hawks Ladies went down 2-1 home Trojans in the Investec Western Conference.

Hawks trailed 1-0 at half-time and went further behind in the second half.

The hosts responded when Annabelle Denly’s strike from the top of the D was deflected in brilliantly by Catherine Reaney, but they could not score again.

Oxford went down 4-0 at leaders Basingstoke in South Clubs League Division 2A, despite some superb interceptions from Clare Shaw and Katie Cox.

Witney won 2-1 away to Southgate 2nd in Division 3A thanks to a goal in each half from Amy Williams and Ellie Kearney.
