ANDY Cook is under no illusion of the task ahead of him after being named the new manager of Oxford United’s women.

The former Arsenal and Durham coach has joined the club on a full-time basis and will take charge for the first time when the U’s travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series on Sunday.

He said: “Having seen the FA Cup tie and then the first league game against Everton, we all know we have a lot of work to do.

“Coming in full-time allows me to assess and develop every part of the team and gives Oxford the best chance to start winning games.

“We are looking at bringing new players to the club over the Spring Series, building into the new winter WSL league.”

Cook will also work alongside general manager Ruth Senior with the club’s younger age groups and education programme, while Karl Milgate will continue as first-team coach.

Senior said: “I am really excited to work with Andy on our long-term vision for the club.

“This appointment also demonstrates the club’s philosophy.

“Working with the Community Trust, we have been able to offer a sustainable role that has allowed us to bring Andy in for the long-term to enhance not only the first team, but our community as a whole.”
