ABINGDON’S Paul Fernandez smashed his own record by 48 minutes when winning the Brecon to Cardiff 44-mile ultra race.

The vet 40 runner crossed in a time of 5hrs 26mins 43secs, beating his previous best from 2015.

Meanwhile, White Horse Harrier Ben Claridge impressed at the British Universities Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

Running for Bath University, he finished sixth in the 400m final, and picked up silver in the 4x200m.

David Kuester marked his first competition of 2017 with two victories at the Moorways Stadium in Derby.

The Bicester veteran won the 70+ age group in the WTC Heavy Weight Triathlon World Cup.

He also clinched victory in the Midland Masters (British) Throwers Group (MMTG) LSW Strongest Man/Woman (Light) Championships.
