CHINNOR ran in five tries to beat Exmouth 37-20 away from home and remain top of National League 2 South.

It took just six minutes for the visitors to open their account, with Nathan Hannay driven over and Roddy Giles adding the extras.

But Exmouth responded well and two penalties from Rich Cadywould reduced Chinnor’s lead to a point.

The visitors piled on the pressure and opened up a 19-6 advantage, when Charlie Broughton and Bevon Armitage crossed.

Giles converted the latter score.

Exmouth’s Charlie Gibbings went over and Cadywould added the extras to make it 19-13 at the break.

Hannay scored his second try to earn Chinnor a bonus point, but the hosts closed to within four points, when Mark Wathes was driven over for a converted score.

Chinnor responded immediately, with penalties from Giles and replacement Basil Strang making it 30-20.

Strang then converted his own try to complete the scoring.

Henley Hawks claimed a 27-21 victory at Bury St Edmunds.

Xavier Andre burst through to score an unconverted try for the visitors on five minutes.

And it became 10-0, when Rob Bell touched down after a number of driving mauls.

They increased their lead to 17 points by half-time as Simon Perry intercepted a pass to race over from 70 yards. George Jackson added the extras.

Bury replied almost immediately from the restart as they made the most of a Henley error, with Sam Sterling driven over. Scott Lyle converted.

Connor Morrison’s try, with Jackson adding the extras, helped Hawks reassert their authority, but they were soon down to 14 men, when Alan Awcock was sent off for a punch.

A Jackson penalty did stretch their lead to 27-14 and the visitors resisted the home side’s pressure.

Sterling squeezed over for a try, which Lyle converted, but Hawks were able to see out the victory.
