BRADFORD City boss Stuart McCall was unhappy the decision to postpone the clash at Oxford United did not come sooner.
Dozens of supporters made the 370-mile trip from West Yorkshire, only to be told the Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final had been called off due to a frozen pitch less than ten minutes before kick-off.
Referee Dean Whitestone felt the surface was playable when he arrived at the Kassam Stadium at 5.45pm, but half an hour later McCall had concerns when he walked on the pitch.
While the Bantams manager had no issues with the postponement, he was aggrieved over the timing.
He said: "It’s the right decision. It’s unplayable because it’s unsafe.
"We are peeved because it hasn’t been called off earlier.
"Even when we came out at 6.15 to look at the surface, Kenny (Black, assistant manager) and I saw how hard it was and were thinking ‘the last thing we need are any more injuries’."
He added: "When we looked at it at 6.15 we were worried, so why wait until gone 7.30?
"It’s not like the sun is going to come out."
