RICKY Johnson (knee) is the only absentee as Banbury United entertain play-off rivals Chesham United in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division tonight.

Saturday’s 1-0 victory over St Neots Town moved the Puritans into the play-off positions, but manager Mike Ford believes that will not bring with it any added pressure.

He said: “It doesn’t add pressure at all.

“We have no right to be in the position we’re in, when you look at where we’ve come from.

“There are a lot of sides up there who have been in this league for a long time and are vying for a place at a higher level.

“We’ve got a young squad who’ve come up from the division below and overperformed and long may that continue.”

North Leigh welcome back Matt Sysum, James Fawke and Bradley Gray at home to Mangotsfield United in Division 1 South & West.

The Millers held second-placed Evesham United to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, thanks in part to the involvement of debutant Will Wellon at centre back, leaving manager John Brough delighted.

“I’ve been calling on them to be tighter at the back all season and the last couple of results have proven we can do it,” he said.

“We had to defend for our lives at points and we rode our luck a little at times.

“They had a couple of chances they should have put away and maybe on another day we would have lost that one, but I was pleased with the determination we showed to get the result.”

Didcot Town host Taunton Town, provided the pitch passes a 3pm inspection.

Freezing temperatures put paid to the Railwaymen’s home clash with Shortwood United on Saturday afternoon, leaving player-manager Andy Ballard frustrated.

A pitch inspection is planned this afternoon at 3pm to determine whether this evening’s game can go ahead and Ballard is eager to get his side back in action.

He said: “We were ready to go on Saturday, we’d trained well all week and it was frustrating to have to call it off.

“But there’s nothing you can do about the weather. If anything, it’s just made us more fired up for this one.

“It’s a massive game for us against a very good side, but we’ve always raised our game against the best sides.”
