DAVID Murphy sent records tumbling at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin, Texas.

The rising City of Oxford star, who is shortlisted for young sportsperson of the year at next week’s Oxfordshire Sports Awards, was part of a 12-strong Great Britain team.

Murphy posted a personal best in the 100m breaststroke, with his time of 1min 1.65secs, to finish fifth in the A final.

It was also good enough to break the open Oxford and North Bucks county record and South East Region record, previously held by his brother Alex.

The event was part of the Target Tokyo Programme, designed for young swimmers to gain international experience in preparation for the next Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, City of Oxford made a fine start in their bid to retain the Oxon and North Bucks County Championship title, with 14 gold medals at the half-way stage.

Having scooped the boys’ junior 1,500m title ahead of teammates Max Underwood and Billy Wotton at Leys Pool, Daniel Jenkins followed that up the following weekend with victories in the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley in Aylesbury.

There was also a double for Emily Wood in the women’s senior 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley, as well as second in the senior 800m.

Wotton triumphed in the boys’ age 14 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley.

He also took second place in both the age 13-14 boys’ freestyle and medley relay, alongside Nick Skelton, Freddie Cooke and Miki Petrovic.

Evie McLean won the girls’ age 13 400m individual medley.

She also scooped the age 13-14 girls’ relay titles in freestyle and medley, with Delphine Little, Mimi Morley Iszatt and Meg Smit.

There was further gold medal success for Gretel Goodgame (girls’ age 13 400m freestyle) and Tash Fenton (age 15 400m individual medley).

Chris Currie (boys’ multi-class 400m freestyle) and Max Bolcate (age 15 400m individual medley) also triumphed.
