OXFORD Boxing Academy triumphed during a night of bouts attended by former world champion Steve Collins at the Kassam Stadium.

Collins, who held the WBO middle and super-middleweight titles, saw the Saxon Way club stun opposition from St Albans, Watford and Lonsdale clubs by winning the most of the fights.

Lewis Brown produced the stand-out performance for Oxford, with the powerful 23-year-old light-heavyweight forcing the referee to call a halt to his fight in the second of three scheduled rounds.

Light welterweight, Jason McGrady, from Bicester, overcame first-round nerves to claim a as split-decision win over Lonsdale’s Roy Pugh.

After the fight the 28-year-old roofer, who has only been boxing six months, said: “I am looking forward to having another one now.”

l THERE was success for two Berinsfield ABC boxers at a show in Romford.

Jordan Blake secured a points win over John Stokes, from the host Five Starr Club over four two minute rounds.

Stokes kept his opponents at bay early on, but Blake wore down his opponent, who required a standing count in the final round.

Meanwhile Muhammad Ahmad knocked down opponent Harry Kashman, also from the host club, in the first round of a skill bout, where there was no verdict.
