DRENNAN Oxford virtually sealed the Angling Trust Oxford Winter League title with a strong team display in the fifth round on the Kennet and Avon Canal around Hungerford.

Although Sensas A4’s Kevin Holmes took the individual honours with a winning catch of 16lb 4oz 0drms, which included big perch, Drennan Oxford members filled the next two positions.

Carl Eland was second with 14.8.0.

Drawn on the peg by the lock, he had mainly skimmers and hybrids.

Eland was just ahead of teammate Tony Hobbs, who caught 14.7.0 .

Drennan Oxford won the team event and now hold a four-point lead in the standings with a round to go.

Team result: 1 Drennan Oxford 36pts , 2 Drennan ODAA 33, 3 Isis 30.

League standings: 1 Drennan Oxford 7 pts, 2 Sensas A 4 11, 3 Drennan ODAA 17.

Apart from winner Ron Hillier, it was a struggle for North Oxford AS anglers on a pacy Cherwell at Marston Ferry Road.

Hillier won with 8.7.0, more than twice the combined weight of the other ten anglers.

Pete Oliver finished runner-up with 1.6.0, followed by Ian Fisher with 1.3.0.
