OXFORD City Stars ended their losing run against Milton Keynes Thunder, but then came seriously unstuck against Streatham in their English National League double-header.

After two cup defeats at the hands of Thunder, Stars excelled with a 3-1 away win in South Division 1, but 24 hours later were heavily beaten by Streatham, who prevailed 7-1 at Oxpens.

Milton Keynes were looking to extend their unbeaten run under new coach Nicky Chinn.

After a nervous start second-placed visitors Stars took the lead halfway through the period, when a Dominic Hopkins shot was deflected in

by the impressive Ben Paynter.

It was then all Stars in the second period as goals from Mike Whillock and Josh Oliver extended their lead to 3-0.

Thunder came back in the third period and a late James Clarke goal restored some pride, denying Tom Annetts a second consecutive shut-out.

A huge crowd filled the Oxpens rink for the Streatham clash, including a coachload of Wightlink Raiders supporters to see their ex-players in action for Stars.

It was however a night to forget for as the Londoners raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period.

Twenty minutes later the scoreboard made for even more depressing reading as Streatham led 4-0.

Stars upped their game and were finally rewarded when a Joe Edwards shot crept past the visiting netminder and over the line.

There was no recovery for Stars, though, as they conceded three further goals for a 7-1 win for Streatham, whose scorers were Callum Best (2), George Norcliffe (2), Alex Sampford (2) and Sean Scarbrough.
