EDDIE Pepperell says he has nothing to fear as he attempts to win back the European Tour card he lost last month at Qualifying School, writes DAVID PRITCHARD.
A slump in form since the summer saw the Abingdon golfer miss out on retaining his place on the circuit – something he had done comfortably in the previous three years.
So while he might have been expecting to use this week to prepare for the star-studded season climax at the World Tour Championship in Dubai, the 25-year-old is instead flying to Spain.
There he will line up on Saturday in the bumper 156-strong field, who will be scrapping for a Tour card, awarded to the top 25 after six rounds.
But Pepperell, pictured, who saw encouraging signs in his all-round game at the end of the season, is unruffled by the prospect of the high stakes.
The Frilford Heath member said: “I’m not dreading it – for goodness sake it’s only a golf event. If anyone’s afraid of it they need to have a look at themselves.
“I’m looking forward to going there and continue what I’m doing.
“My recent form has been a lot better than it was before.
“I’ve just got to try and put it all together, but I feel very close to doing that.
“I do feel I’m good enough to be out there on the European Tour, and in time I will hopefully prove that.”
He added: “I know the course and I’m pretty confident. It will be a good experience.
“I feel historically I’ve been a slow starter, so this gives me the perfect opportunity to get into a rhythm.
“I know if I’m playing well, the six-round format will be great for me.”
