OXFORD City Stars strengthened their position in the English National League South Division 1 with back-to-back high-scoring victories.

London Raiders were thrashed 9-3 at Oxpens on Sunday, 24 hours after Stars had won 8-4 at Wightlink Raiders.

But the latter win will not count, due to financial problems forcing Wightlink to withdraw from the league.

Boris Ruzicka was welcomed back for the home game against London, but young Hallam Wilson stole the show with a hat-trick.

Stars played some stylish hockey from the outset and were rewarded with two goals in 17 seconds around the eight-minute mark.

Ondrej Pekarik tipped in a Matt Jordan pass to open the scoring, before Josh Oliver quickly doubled the lead.

Raiders got on the board within 30 seconds through Marek Nahlik and the frenzied spell continued when Wilson almost immediately restored the two-goal lead.

After four goals in less than two minutes, the scoreline then did not change until the 33rd minute.

The barren spell featured a penalty, awarded when Darren Elliott was upended, but the veteran saw his effort saved.

Stars remained in the ascendancy, though, and three quick goals towards the end of the second period made the game safe.

Oliver, Wilson and Josh Florey netted to put the home side 6-1 up.

Wilson completed his hat-trick in the third period, alongside efforts from Dominic Hopkins and Mike Whillock which rendered London’s two goals mere consolations.

Stars spread the goals around on Saturday against Wightlink, who were playing at Gosport due to uncertainty over the future of their rink.

Matt Jordan scored his maiden goal for the club, levelling after George Norcliffe’s opener for Raiders.

Stars had to come from behind again in the second period, Whillock cancelling out Ryan Webb’s goal.

Pekarik made it 3-2, but the doomed Raiders still had plenty of spirit and Webb pounced on a defensive error to equalise.

Stars were too strong, though and eventually took charge of the game.

Alan Green bagged a brace, while Josh Oliver, Hopkins and Joe Edwards also scored.

But the result, along with Wightlink’s 4-3 win at Oxpens last month, looks set to be chalked off.
