KIDLINGTON make their Buildbase FA Trophy debut tomorrow in confident mood as they entertain Wantage Town in the preliminary round.

Last season, the Greens reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase and manager Julian McCalmon is hoping to emulate that success at a higher level.

“FA competitions for me are massive,” he said.

“Once you get a couple of wins in it you never know where it’s going to take you. At Yarnton Road I would back us to beat anyone.”

Mark Flanagan, Charlie Wise, Ben Weedon and Ben Fitzmartin remain sidelined by injury and Kidlington are also without Lewis Gabbidon, Lewis Coyle, Tommy Castle and Michael Alexis.

However, several younger players impressed in Wednesday s 3-1 League Cup triumph over Swindon Supermarine and McCalmon is confident of a similar display this weekend.

He added: “We’re down to the bare bones a bit, but that just means more opportunities for the youngsters.”

Wantage welcome back James Glover, but are without the injured Adam Doyle (knee), Sam Brown (hip) and Elliott Powell (ankle).

Player-manager Stuart Cattell believes a positive result could be a boost in a difficult Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign.

He said: “It’s a good opportunity for us to get away from the league and see what we can do in the cup. Hopefully it will lead to a change in fortunes.”

North Leigh look to maintain their recent cup form as they travel to struggling Bridgwater Town.

The Millers followed up their impressive Emirates FA Cup victory over Folkestone Invicta with a penalty shoot-out victory at Didcot in the League Cup.

And while manager John Brough is wary of fatigue induced by involvement in three cups, he believes his side can sustain an FA Trophy challenge.

“I think winning breeds confidence and it’s a good habit to get into,” he said.

Morgan Williams and Elliott Osborne-Ricketts are both unavailable, while Jamie Cook is out with a knee injury.

Adam Learoyd, Oli Thomas and Taylor Janes return for Didcot Town’s trip to Bishops Cleeve, but they are without the injured Harry Beer and Jack Longford.
