OXFORD United’s equaliser was a source of frustration to Charlton Athletic boss Russell Slade – because his side knew what was coming.

Chris Maguire finished off a rapid counter-attack in the 67th minute to earn a 1-1 draw at the Kassam Stadium.

It was just the sort of problem Charlton expected Michael Appleton’s side to pose.

He said: “They sprung out at us quickly.

“We talked about that being one of their threats and when we go forward you have to understand what you leave behind.

“In that transition when teams turn the ball over teams can be a threat.

“That’s exactly what they’ve done to us, they’ve suckered us on that.”

Overall Slade spoke highly of United, who remain just ahead of the Londoners in the Sky Bet League One table.

He said: “It was a good game. That’s a decent side we played.

“I thought they took the ball well at times and I thought we did. We kept good possession.

“There weren’t too many chances in the first period, but the chances that came fell to us.

“I thought it was a really strong performance from that point of view.”
