HEAD coach Pete Davies says Henley Hawks are not afraid to set out their stall and target the National League 2 South title.

Hawks are back in English rugby's fourth tier after suffering relegation from National League 1 last year.

And having gone up as champions in their last two seasons at this level, Davies is looking to replicate that again in 2016-17 ahead of their opener at Redruth tomorrow.

"We're not shying away from the fact our ambition is to win the league," he said.

"We will do everything we can to make sure it happens."

Hawks have had a busy summer, securing the permanent signing of versatile back Alan Awcock from London Welsh, as well as Witney second row David Hyde.

Prop Brad Cook (RAF), scrum half George Jackson (London Scottish) and fly half Joe Butler (Amersham & Chiltern) have also joined.

Winger Jake Randall has left for National League 1 side Hartpury College.

Davies also revealed Hawks will not be relying on dual-registered players this season.

He added: "We felt it was affecting consistency with them coming in and out and we wanted to develop a squad ethos of Henley players."

Chinnor bid to build on last year's superb end to the season when they host London Irish Wild Geese.

Eight wins from ten games saw them finish sixth and director of rugby, Matt Williams, wants to get off to a positive start after an unbeaten pre-season.

He said: "The guys are going in fully aware we have to start the year well, but they realise three pre-season wins do not equate to any league points.

"We have carried on the momentum from last season and Saturday is not about how many we win by, it is about winning."

New signing Bevon Armitage has been named captain and is one of five new faces in the starting XV.

He is joined by prop Tom Price, second row CJ Oszuwa, centre Danny Barnes and winger Luke Hibberd.

Player-coach Richard Thorpe is among the replacements, with Ben Manning preferred at blind-side flanker.

Williams added: "I pick my teams based on performance, not on name, and Ben just had to start this week."
