GREAT & Little Tew secured their Division 1 status despite falling to a seven-wicket defeat at Tring Park in a rain-affected match.

The west Oxfordshire side are an unassailable 34 points above the drop zone with only 20 remaining from the last game of the season in the Home Counties Premier League.

Tew picked up six points in defeat, which proved enough to keep them in the top-flight in their debut season and condemn Reading to relegation after their game at Banbury was abandoned.

Andy Harris’s side were put into bat at Tring and Dain Moreton starred, hammering 115 not out off 114 deliveries, including 13 boundaries, to help Tew post 242-6.

Openers Harrison Smith (60) and Henry Woodward put on 63, before the latter was dismissed.

With Moreton at the crease, Tew were in good shape despite the dismissals of Smith and Joe White leaving them 171-3.

Moreton continued to score freely while others fell to help Tew finish on 242-6 from their 50 overs.

Tring were quickly restricted to 19-1 in reply.

But Charlie MacDonald (73) and Saif Zaib (52) steadied the ship, before the latter put on 72 for the third wicket with Michael Payne to leave the hosts on 158-3 when he was dismissed.

Heavy rain stopped play, but Tring needed just seven runs off six overs to reach a revised target of 177 which they comfortably met to secure victory.

Banbury were in control at home to Reading before the heavy rain arrived.

Luke Ryan took three wickets in one over to restrict the visitors to 74-5.

But rain saved relegated Reading from defeat, who were struggling on 83-7 after 35 overs.
