DANNY Nicholls says Oxford City’s disappointing run of results is down to poor finishing.

A 3-0 defeat at home to Wealdstone on Tuesday night made it three straight losses in Vanarama National League South, having started the season with victory over Welling.

Joint-manager Nicholls has been encouraged by many aspects of City’s play this season, but is fully aware a lack of goals – they have failed to find the net in those three defeats – is a big issue.

“It’s simple really, we have to be more clinical,” he said.

“We have had good spells in those games and created chances, but have not been taking them.

“It’s not one player missing, it’s a collective thing and we need to put it right.”

He added: “It’s the old adage that I would be more concerned if we were not creating opportunities, but we have to put it right.

“We have had chances where players have been six yards out with virtually an open goal and not put it in.

“You can’t legislate for that. You simply have to score.”

Nicholls has a fully-fit squad for tomorrow’s home game against Concord Rangers, with Tom Winters now recovered from a slight groin issue having come through 25 minutes as a second-half substitute on Tuesday.

But City’s joint boss says he will tinker with the starting line-up.

“I will make a change or two,” he said.

“It’s only fair on those players not in the team who have been working hard for a starting role to get a chance when we haven’t been winning games.

“I’m experienced enough to know that a season is not defined by the opening three or four games, but there’s no doubt that if we had taken our chances the league table would look a lot different.

“We are all working hard to put that right.”
