JASON Plato marked his 500th Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race in fine style by taking victory at Knockhill.

The 48-year-old, from Oxford, had endured a barren run this season, but landed his first victory in the colours of the Silverline Subaru BMR Racing team at the Scottish circuit.

Plato secured a commanding lights-to-flag win, despite having his early advantage wiped out by a safety car, to land his 95th career triumph in his milestone race.

He went on to finish third in the other two races, moving up to seventh in the standings with 178 points, 53 behind leader Sam Tordoff.

Plato said: “Before this weekend I wasn’t getting caught up in any numbers.

“You cast your mind back to where it all started – struggling in single seaters with no money, and doorstepping Sir Frank Williams.

“Five hundred races later and we’re still winning.”

The next round is at Rockingham on August 27-28.
