BRIAN Bloomfield delivered a telling wood on the last end to beat Banbury Chestnuts’ Brian Ray 21-20 in the final of the Oxfordshire BA’s Longford Cup at Banbury Borough.
The Witney bowler, who led 13-2, was hauled back to 20-20 by a superb comeback from Ray.
On the final end Ray, who had overcome West Witney’s Roger Thomas in the last four, held three shots.
But Bloomfield, who had beaten Garry Watts (South Oxford) in the semi-finals, played his final delivery to within 15 inches to claim the county’s domestic title.
With a 21-20 semi-final win over Dennis Crook (Headington), Watts reached the final of the Allison Cup, where he met Paul McLeod, who was playing on his club green.
McLeod made who triumphed 21-4 against Witney Town’s Brian Smith in the last four, made home advantage tell by winning the final 21-15.
Ian Whelpton (Banbury Central) won his second Officers’ Cup final, when he beat clubmate Nigel Galletly 21-9 in the final.
