CITY of Oxford enjoyed their best performance at a British National Championships, clinching nine medals in Sheffield.

The club took home four gold, a silver and four bronze from Ponds Forge.

On the first day, Callum Smart won the age 16 100m breaststroke race, with Connor Bryan claiming bronze, while David Murphy took the age 17 prize.

Emily Wood, 17, scooped bronze in the girls 200m breaststroke on the second day.

But Murphy starred, once again, breaking the British Age Group record on route to 50m breaststroke gold.

Smart clinched a second title, winning his age group in the same event.

City continued to shine on day three, with the 17+ Ladies’ 4x200m freestyle team breaking the Oxon & North Bucks Open County record.

Eleanor McNally, Ellie Millington, Shannon Motha and Emily Nisbet finished in 8mins 41.44secs.

Records also tumbled on the fourth day, with Billy Wootton, 13, just missing out on a podium in the 200m breaststroke, but securing a new South East regional mark of 2.31.77.

Smart took bronze in the 16-year-old race, breaking county and regional records in the process.

Murphy continued the trend, winning silver in his age group, smashing the regional and county time.

Bryan then improved the 16-year-old Welsh mark for the event, coming fourth.

Day five was no different as City’s 14-16 year 4x100m freestyle team of Ewan Springett, Dan Jenkins, Luke Wilby and Lewis Gilchrist just missed out on the final, but broke a county record.

The 17+ ladies also set another county mark tumbling in the 4x100m freestyle, as did Ellie Millington in the open race.

On the final day, Tasha Fenton claimed third in the 13 years 100m breaststroke.

Another county record went, this time it was the 4x100m medley team of McNally, Emily Wood, Kate Mills and Millington, who came eighth.

In the boys race, Gilchrist, Smart, Bryan and Jenkins set a new county and regional mark for seventh place.
