In the first of a new weekly column written by Oxford United fans, for Oxford United fans, TREVOR LAMBERT remembers the fun and games of following the U’s in the Conference I WON’T forget it – October 14, 2007.

It was the first and (so far) only occasion for the Yellows away at Farsley Celtic in the Conference (a 1-0 win courtesy of a Phil Trainer goal, since you asked).

The M1 was unexpectedly clear and I arrived, alone, two hours before kick-off.

I follow a sign to Farsley FC down a suburban street.

But minutes later a second sign beckons me back the way I’ve just come!

Exploration on foot reveals the ground hiding behind a school gym which served as a matchday bar.

The away toilets were a Portaloo precariously perched atop the terrace.

No food – at half-time gates were opened and a local burger van obliged.

Lest I appear disrespectful, clubs like Farsley are the lifeblood of their local communities.

But recalling this I realise how far we have come with two promotions under Ian Lenagan and Darryl Eales.

Come on you Yellows!
