NATHAN Douglas cannot wait to compete at the Olympic Stadium in London for the very first time tonight.

The Oxford City AC triple jumper missed out on his home Games in 2012 with a thigh injury.

But he will finally take to the runway at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which plays host to the Muller Anniversary Games – the tenth Diamond League meeting of the year.

The 33-year-old, who competes at 8.22pm, said: “I am really looking forward to it.

“I missed 2012 and to get out there is going to be a special moment for me.”

Douglas was left out of the Great Britain team by selectors last week for next month’s Rio Olympics.

Having been one qualifying stand jump of 16.85m away from this third Games, the Birmingham-based athlete admitted he will be going to London with a point to prove.

“There will always be a little bit of that for sure,” he said.

“I would like to go there and perform well – it will be brilliant if my rhythm suddenly clicked.”

Lawrence Clarke, from Christmas Common, near Watlington, who has been selected for Rio, goes in the 110m hurdles tomorrow.

The heats begin at 2.30pm, with the final at 3.56pm.
