OXFORDSHIRE’S Izzy Taylor has been named in the Great Britain equestrian team for this summer’s Rio Olympics.

The 33-year-old, from Aynho, near Banbury, will partner Allercombe Ellie in Brazil as part of a four-strong eventing team.

She will be joined by William Fox-Pitt, Gemma Tattersall and Kitty King – the latter a former resident of Lew, near Bampton.

Only Fox-Pitt has competed in an Olympic Games before.

Taylor has ridden at two senior European Championships, finishing sixth at last year’s event at Blair.

Allercombe Ellie was selected for the 2014 World Equestrian Games as well as last year’s Europeans, but was withdrawn both times due to injuries.

She was eighth at Badminton this spring and won the Tattersalls CCI3* category in 2014, shortly after Taylor took over the ride from Aaron Millar.

Taylor is second in the British eventing rankings and eighth in the world.

Great Britain equestrian team leader Dan Hughes said: “The team we have selected represents the strength in depth of talent we are lucky enough to enjoy in the UK.”
