AN outstanding innings from Rob Owen proved all in vain for Faringdon as they crashed to an eightwicket defeat at home to Shrivenham in the first round of the Airey Cup.

Owen slammed a remarkable 150 not out in a total of 192 all out for Faringdon – with only one teammate achieving double figures.

Owen’s one-man show stunned the Shrivenham attack, in which Charan Chahal took 4-63 and Josh Kirk 3-37.

The visitors took only 29 overs to reach 193-2 as Adam Tucker (73no), Conor Taylor (67no) and Chahal (30) hit the Faringdon attack to all corners.

There was another huge ton at Wantage, where David Spencer’s 163 also counted for nothing as they lost to Cairns Fudge by 19 runs.

Tom Small (104) and Martin Hanscombe (80) helped Fudge to 258-7, before Spencer’s brilliant knock got Wantage to 239, Hanscombe completing an excellent individual display with 6-47.

Another ton in vain was scored at Broughton & North Newington, where Clark Berry’s 130 not out was not enough for the hosts to beat Oxenford.

Habeel Khalid (94no) and Vijay Pamu (63) helped Oxenford to a formidable 279-5.

Berry’s unbeaten ton was the main contribution in Broughton’s reply of 242-6.

Wootton & Boars Hill saw off visitors Stonesfield by 32 runs.

Shaun Morton hit 64 and Billy Webb 53 in Wootton’s 207-7, and Webb then claimed 5-25 to dismiss Stonesfield for 175.

Minster Lovell reached the next round with a thrilling seven-run win at East & West Hendred.

Connor Tinsley (44), Angus Spittles (40) and Jack Simpson (38) helped Minster set 195-9 in their 45 overs, before off-spinner Simpson claimed 4-56 as Hendred were held to 188-7.

Marsh Gibbon saw off hosts Chipping Norton by 26 runs.

Sam Richardson hit 50 not out and Steve Turner 49 in Marsh Gibbon’s 207-8, and then Sat Vadivale claimed 3-51 in Chippy’s 181 all out, Arthur Ward top-scoring with 58.

Clifton Hampden’s Julian Hitchman claimed 4-28 and Matthew Burton 4-60 in Wolvercote’s 154 all out, before David Pimm’s 45 not out and 33 from Burton helped Clifton to 157-8, despite 5-31 from Darren Jones.

Adam Armitage’s 5-33 helped Great Horwood see off visitors Yarnton & Cowley by 106 runs.

Stuart Parker scored 82 not out in Horwood’s 188-8, before Yarnton slumped to 82 all out.

Minster Lovell 2nd shocked hosts Tetsworth to record a crushing nine-wicket win in the Telegraph Cup.

Minster dismissed Tetsworth for 140, Krunal Patel top-scoring with 62, and eased to victory at 144-1 as Zak Jarvis hit 77 not out and youngster Ollie Mersh was unbeaten on 51.

Fringford crushed hosts Risinghurst by 208 runs after rattling up 273-8 in their 45 overs.

John Bacon led the way with 72, before George Williams took 3-17 and Christian Mann 3-26 as Risinghurst crumbled for 65 all out.

A six-wicket haul for Michael Tippett helped Kidlington to a seven-wicket win at Deddington.

Tippett took 6-22 in the home side’s 104 all out.

Rehman Ullah claimed 5-60 to help Westcott dismiss Kilkenny for 180. He then scored 67 and Mark Strong 47 as Westcott edged to 181-9.

Eynsham beat visitors West Ilsley by six wickets after bowling them out for 156.

Sam Jones scored 72 not out to lead Eynsham’s reply to 159-4.
