ALAN Hill believes Consigliere and Velvet Cognac will be hard to beat at the final Kingston Blount meeting of the season tomorrow.

The 13-year-old Consigliere is an intended runner in the men’s open, and the Aston Rowant trainer is confident his charge can reverse placings with Swallows Delight, who beat him at the last meeting at the track, where the going is good.

“The longer trip and the seven-pound pull (in the weights) should help,” said the trainer.

“He won’t be ridden as aggressively – Dave Mansell on Swallows Delight took advantage of our tactics – and he’s in awesome form at home.”

Velvet Cognac is likely to be a warm order in the intermediate race.

His recent Whitfield second has been boosted by the subsequent runs of conqueror Curraigflemens and third Exclusive Rights.

“If the form stands up, he’s an absolute good thing,” agreed Hill.

The trainer is hoping to get the day off to a good start in the members’ race with Hunters Lodge, but is wary of the ground and feels Phil York’s Merrydown Vintage is a real threat.

“He’s in good form, but the ground might be slightly too quick,” Hill said of his charge.

The trainer could be double-handed in the novice riders race over two miles and about five furlongs.

Ravethebrave will be the mount of 17-year-old Fergus Gregory, while Billie Magern will be partnered by Gareth Henderson.

The seven-race card gets under way at 2.30, but due to the Astonbury Festival taking place near the course, a one-way traffic system will be in operation on Kingston Hill Road throughout the day.

All traffic should arrive via the B4009 from Junction 6 of the M40 or from Chinnor, towards Kingston Blount.

There will be no access to the course from the A40 at Stokenchurch (Junction 5 of the M40) down Kingston Hill.
