DIDCOT skipper Jordan Morrison produced a masterful bowling display to help his side to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory at home to Shipton 2nd in Division 3 in the match of the day in the Cherwell League on Saturday.

Morrison claimed figures of 7-31 to dismiss visitors Shipton for just 144, allowing his side to chase down the target inside 27 overs.

Shipton captain Paul Hemming opted to bat first after winning the toss, but it was only veteran Jerry Senior (43) who mastered the Didcot attack as the west Oxfordshire side lost wickets at regular intervals.

Only a 52-run second wicket stand between Senior and Justin Hemming got Shipton to a remotely competitive total as Morrison claimed his seven wicket haul in 16.5 economical overs.

Shipton knew they needed a good start in Didcot’s reply if they were to have any hope of victory, and they managed to remove Karl Johnston for a duck.

But Simon Pritchard (35) and Elliot Matthews (26) shared 53 for the second wicket, and when that partnership was broken, Matthews and Ian Demain took the score to 101-3.

Demain stayed calm, his unbeaten 44 from 53 balls helping Didcot over the line at 146-3 to secure victory.
