MICHAEL Appleton will remind Oxford United's players struggling with injuries to put the team before their own desire to feature in the season finale.

Kemar Roofe and Johnny Mullins sat out the 2-0 win at Carlisle United last weekend with ankle injuries, while Joe Skarz had to come off at half-time with cramp.

The trio all trained on the Kassam Stadium pitch yesterday as the U's looked to get an idea of their fitness to face Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow.

United will seal promotion with a victory and all will be keen to play their part, but Appleton stressed the importance of putting the team first.

The head coach said: "We need to know if they’re going to be in contention at all for Saturday.

"I put a lot of trust in the players and there’s not been many times this year from an injury point of view that’s been breached. "They’re professional people and the one thing I don’t want is to be making a substitution after five minutes.

"On Saturday if players are looking it as a one-off I can understand it, but I won’t let them put the team in jeopardy."
