REIGNING champions Headington A cruised into the quarter-finals of the Bridle Insurance Oxfordshire League Cup with wins over Thame and Hanborough.

Headington thrashed Thame 93-34 and then disposed of Hanborough 85-41 to tee up a last-eight clash with Witney Town.

Last year’s runner’s-up Banbury Central A also won emphatically, notching up big wins against South Oxford B and local rivals Banbury Chestnuts.

The closest tie of the second round saw South Oxford A face Witney Mills – both sides having gained promotion to Division 1 last season on equal points.

This time it was Mills, who came out on top, pipping South Oxford by two points.

The Witney side now face another tough test, as they visit previous champions Oxford City & County A.

The competition is now sponsored by Bridle Insurance.

Bridle’s head of leisure and sport, Tanoa Winder, said: “The League Cup is now in its 13th season and an important fixture on the Oxfordshire bowls calendar, so we are really pleased to be associated with its success.”
