OXFORD United have had to shelve their attempts to install a temporary fourth stand at the Kassam Stadium this weekend.

The speed with which their promotion-deciding clash with Wycombe Wanderers sold out prompted the club to look into the option last week.

United were optimistic they could sell thousands of extra tickets, but the logistical hurdles involved could not be cleared in time.

Greig Box Turnbull, the club's new managing director, said: "It's a shame because the demand was there.

"It means fans will miss out but time was against us.

"It's something we will learn from and hopefully there will be other opportunities in the future."
