BICESTER Blue Fins produced a sterling performance to win the third round of their Chiltern League Division 1 campaign.

After only being promoted to the top league for the first time last year, Bicester took home 22 first, nine second and two third place finishes at the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney.

Head cach Craig Oliver said: “To finish first in this round when it’s our first year in Division 1 is outstanding.”

In the Chiltern League, swimmers must finish slower than a set time for each event, age group and gender.

Emmy Whybrow opened the gala with victory in the ladies open 100m freestyle.

And her 11-year-old teammate Georgia Usher won the girls 12 year 50m freestyle and 14 year 50m breaststroke.

Emily Allen (50m backstroke) and Sophie Phillips (50m freestyle) were also victorious in the age 14 category.

Michael Tayler secured victory in the open 100m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Bicester’s Lottie Wynne-Jones has been selected to swim for England in the Energy Standard Cup at Lignano, Italy this weekend.

She will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events and will come up against swimmers from Italy, Russia and Germany.

l ABINGDON Vale’s young swimmers were celebrating after winning the Thames Valley Junior League B gala final at Amersham.

Their squad were placed third after some technical disqualifications.

But they rallied with a final batch of excellent swims to take top spot by eight points with an impressive 21 wins from 50 events.

Abingdon coach James Halfhead said: “Our young swimmers held their nerve and showed determination to pull back the win.”

The A gala final, held in Reading on the same night, was won by Windsor.
