LUKE Ryan insists Oxfordshire will be up for the challenge of taking on Devon despite their preparations being hit by bad weather.

Oxon’s friendly against Buckinghamshire on April 17 was abandoned after heavy rain.

They have also been forced to train indoors ahead of their Unicorns Counties Trophy opener at Wormsley on Sunday.

But captain Ryan believes his side are in good shape ahead of this weekend.

He said: “Having our game called off a couple of weeks ago was not ideal.

“But the lads have had games for pre-season with their clubs.

“We have also had pretty strong indoor sessions which is not ideal, but we will make the most of it.”

Devon have already played a competitive match, losing by 47 runs to Cornwall last weekend.

Sunday’s fixture is a repeat of the 2014 final, which saw Devon win a thriller by seven runs at Wormsley.

But Ryan insists his side, who are looking to improve on last year’s quarter-final showing, are not driven by putting the record straight this weekend.

He said: “We have quite a different side (from two years ago).

“We don’t really think like that, but we have just got to be on top of our game and up for the challenge.”

Oxon hand debuts to top-order batsman George Munsey and all-rounder Harry Stephens, both of whom have joined Oxford.

A 12-man squad has been named for the clash, with the final XI not selected until the day of the match.

In a change from the side scheduled to face Bucks, Banbury seamer Ollie Wright comes in for Aston Rowant’s Leo Bethell, who has university commitments.

But Banbury seamer Ashley Blanchard and Great & Little Tew opener Joe White are still sidelined through injury.
