THE future of Oxford City Stars looks bright after a takeover deal was agreed which could see the club hit new heights.

The new management of the county’s premier ice hockey side say they are confident of “delivering the best success Oxford has ever had on the ice”.

Paul Lynch, Russell Shrives and James Schall have taken full control of the English National League South Division 1 club.

And the trio are determined to leave no stone unturned as they embark on a series of changes to try and maximise potential.

Although they know hard work lies ahead, they are confident of delivering.

Schall, a former Stars player who works in the video games industry, said “As a group, we are really passionate and excited to bring more success to Oxfordshire.

“We are going to pull apart how things are done at the club, not because they may be wrong, but because that’s how they’ve always been done.

“We feel we can add support, advice and drive.

“By working closer with fans, corporate partners and local authorities we can deliver the best success Oxford has ever had on the ice.”

The new management have wasted little time in making their mark, introducing an early bird season ticket price, as well as organising a fans’ forum.

Adult season tickets will be available from £99 for the first 30 days when they go on sale in June – a saving of £50 – with concessions at £29.

Lynch, who owns Abingdon Bathrooms & Kitchens, said: “My family have been converts to ice hockey in the last few years.

“I’m passionate about building more stability for the club so we can start providing more funds into the playing squad.

“I would also like to thank the previous owners, who last season brought the club better than expected success on the ice.

“It’s going to be a tough job repeating that, but we’ll be doing everything we can.”

The fans’ forum, free to all, will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 7pm at the Kings Head pub on Holywell Street.

Shrives, owner of RJS Waste Management Ltd, added: “We want to work with our landlords (Oxford Ice Rink), as well as the councils.

“Positive relationships are already being forged and that excites me hugely.

“I see Oxford City Stars as a truly community club.”
