OXFORD RL’s winless start to the season continued in a 70-10 hammering at the hands of hosts Keighley Cougars.

The Blues remain pointless in Kingstone Press League 1 after four games and sit second from bottom.

Cougars ran in 13 tries and it took them just three minutes to get on the scoreboard when Ritchie Hawkyard went over.

Two tries in three minutes from Jode Sheriffe and Darren Hawkyard put Oxford in more trouble.

But the Blues did get off the mark shortly before the quarter mark when Casey Canterbury touched down.

Cougars recovered with Paul Handforth crossing twice, with a Darren Hawkyard try sandwiching the scores, as the hosts led 36-4 at half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein as Handforth completed his hat-trick of tries.

Paul White then touched down after racing through to collect Handforth’s kick over the top.

Cougars extended their lead further when Brendon Rawlins raced over.

Oxford refused to give in and centre Zack McComb pounced on Marcus Brooker’s clever grubber to ground the ball.

But the Cougars blew the Blues away in the final ten minutes.

Scott Law powered over, before Ritchie Hawkyard squeezed through for his second try.

Finigan completed the rout with two tries in as many minutes.

Oxford will now look to bounce back when they host mid-table Hunslet Hawks at Tilsley Park, Abingdon, on Sunday, April 24.
