KEMAR Roofe has been named as the best player in Sky Bet League Two by FourFourTwo magazine.

Oxford United’s top scorer came 12th in their annual search for the top 50 players in the Football League, ahead of household names such as Stewart Downing and Joey Barton.

The forward’s 25 goals this season have clearly caught the eye, with the list compiled via votes from supporters, who had to name the five best players in their club’s division, excluding their own side.

Roofe was two places higher than his closest rival in League Two, Leyton Orient frontman Jay Simpson.

The 23-year-old was not the only U’s player to be included – midfielder Liam Sercombe snuck in at 48 – while Burnley striker Andre Gray topped the list.

Roofe just fell short of a double celebration, though.

He was nominated for the League Two player of the month for March, but was beaten to the award by Bristol Rovers’ in-form striker Matty Taylor.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke scooped the manager of the month prize.
