Elliot Harvey roared to victory in the second round of the Trent Valley Karting Club’s Winter Championship at PF International Kart Circuit, Brandon.

The 14-year-old Oxfordshire UTC pupil, from Didcot, came first from a 60-strong grid in the Junior X30 race – his first of the year.

Having come a promising sixth in the first round in December, Harvey did well in practice, finishing fastest in the wet and keeping pace in dry conditions.

His form continued the following day, with second place in the qualifying race before he blitzed his pre-final heat to claim second spot on the grid.

Rain just before the start of the final necessitated a last-minute change of tyres, but Harvey handled the upheaval expertly, seizing an early lead early on.

Soon into the 12-minute contest he had opened up a five-second lead, eventually easing home four seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

Harvey returns for the third round this weekend.
