PATRICK Hoban says his sudden glut of goals is down to a change in fortune in front of goal rather than a change in approach.

The striker made it four goals in as many appearances with the vital equaliser in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Newport County on Tuesday.

It was a terrific finish from a player who has suddenly hit form, having scored twice in his first 38 United games – although the man himself will be keen to point out half were as a substitute.

The Irishman, who now has scored five goals for the season, insists he does not feel different, but is thrilled to see chances finding the net.

“Who would have known it, I can score goals,” he joked.

“Last season the chances were there and I was getting a bit unlucky, but I’m starting to score some goals now.

“It’s just my efforts are going in, that’s the difference.

“Last season I was getting blocked on the line, goals disallowed that weren’t offside, keepers plucking the ball out of the top corner.

“It felt like I was never going to score, but it’s just different this year, especially after a good pre-season with the squad.

“Long may it continue.”

Hoban has only started once in Sky Bet League Two this season, back in August, but his form and an injury to Ryan Taylor could see him named in the XI for tomorrow’s game at Hartlepool United.
