OXFORD United have strengthened their squad ahead of today's loan deadline by signing defender Jordan Evans from Fulham.

The 20-year-old has joined on an initial two-month deal, which takes him up to the home game with Bristol Rovers on January 16.

Evans, who played youth international football for Wales, has not played a senior game for his parent club and would be making his senior debut if he featured in United's Sky Bet League Two clash at Hartlepool United on Saturday.

The left back, who can also play in an attacking role on the flank, is delighted to have earned a move.

He said: "I’ve been playing under 21s at Fulham all season and I think my performances have been good, so I’ve been trying to get out on loan because I need first team experience.

"My agent told me Oxford were interested, so I jumped at the opportunity.

"I love to get forward, I’m very attacking.

"I love to get on the ball and get the team going. You can expect to see a lot of attacking runs and crosses in the box."

United made the move due to a feeling there was a need to provide cover for Joe Skarz, who is the only senior specialist left back in the squad.

Derek Fazackerley, United's assistant head coach, said: "We’re a little bit short down that side, particularly if we lost Joe Skarz.

"He doesn’t miss many games, but you can’t leave yourself in a position where you’re vulnerable.

"It’s a good opportunity for the lad and us to strengthen us down that side."

The U's have not ruled out further movement before the 5pm deadline, after which they will be unable to make changes until January.

When Evans does get a chance in the United side, he will be hoping to have the chance to take set pieces, after scoring two impressive free-kicks for Fulham's under 21 side in the past month.
