LIAM Sercombe has revealed he is already halfway to his goals target for the season.

The midfielder is reaping the rewards of being allowed a more attacking role than the one he played for Exeter City.

A double in last weekend’s 3-1 win at Accrington Stanley took Sercombe to four goals for the campaign.

Adding goals from midfield was a priority for U’s boss Michael Appleton and Sercombe has already matched the highest-scoring midfielder from last season, Callum O’Dowda.

The 25-year-old, whose best return is the seven goals he notched for the Grecians in League One during 2011-12, has made such a good start at United he admits the initial aim may have to be upgraded.

He said: “My first target is eight, so to get four now I’m right on for that and hopefully I can get double figures.

“I made 40 appearances last year and scored four goals, so it’s a great start, but I want to keep going.”
