JAMIE Copus shone as Oxford Brookes helped add two gold medals and one silver to Great Britain’s haul in the European Universities Championships in Hannover, Germany, writes JOHN WIGGINS.

Copus took gold in the lightweight double scull with Ben Reeves, having recently won a silver medal in the Under 23 World Championships and raced to fourth in the lightweight quad A final of the World Championships.

The final race of the regatta saw Brookes’ eight of Harry Brightmore (cox), Morgan Bolding, Henry Swarbrick, James Stanhope, Rory Gibbs, Matt Aldridge, Mike Glover, Will Hall and Reeves overcome Belarus for the first victory in this event.

The silver came for the women’s coxless four of Suzie Dear, Annie Withers, Imogen Mackie and Danni Shrosbree.

Other British medallists included former Headington resident, Becky Knowles, in the Durham University silver medal lightweight quad, and St Edward’s School old boy, Oli Knight, with gold in the Newcastle University four.

THERE was success for Wallingford RC at the World Masters Regatta at Hazewinkel, Belgium.

Alice Brown, Karen Walker, Julia Wilks and club president, Katie Kapernaros triumphed in the women’s Masters C quad scull.

Charles Parry finished the regatta with four medals, winning his age category (G) single and the younger, F group, before repeating the feat with former Wallingford sculler, Tom Bishop, in their double scull.

OXFORD BC president, Constantine Louloudis, fellow Dark Blues, Pete Reed and Paul Bennet, and Abingdon School old boy Oli Cook helped Great Britain’s men’s eight win the Kanal Cup.
