KIDLINGTON boss Martin Wilkinson admitted he has been stunned by his side’s unusual record of a dozen away cup ties in a row.

After overcoming Uhlsport Hellenic League rivals Ascot United on the road in the extra-preliminary round, Kidlington continue their Emirates FA Cup campaign tomorrow at Combined Counties League side Chertsey Town in the preliminary round.

It will be the 12th successive away match in cup competition for the Greens and with trips to Tuffley Rovers and Cirencester Town Development in the Hellenic League’s Floodlit Cup and Challenge Cup still to come, Wilkinson has been left scratching his head at his side’s poor luck.

He said: “I’ve never been involved in a run like this before and I’ve been in football for a long time.

“Everyone in local football has started to look out for Kidlington to see if we’re home or away.

“It’s all become a bit of a joke.”

Victory tomorrow would set up a 15th straight away cup tie at Marlow or Godalming Town in the first qualifying round and continue a winning habit which Wilkinson hopes will give his side a big confidence boost.

But his priority is tomorrow’s trip to Chertsey, where he is hoping a little FA Cup glamour will pay dividends.

“We’ve got a coach booked, which should be a good experience as it’s not something we usually do,” he added.

“Hopefully everyone will enjoy that – and the trip home especially!”
